Sports Car Club of America: 60 Years in Photos
Customer Review: 60 years of muddy photos
Being a fan and participant of road racing over the past 40 years, I looked forward with anticipation to this new book. With a rich history full of color and excitment, one can only imagine the wealth of memorabilia and imagery on file in the archives of the SCCA.
Apparently those archives were off limits to the producers of this book, or simply don't exist at all. Of the "60 years of photos" included in the book, the majority look like something an average fan may have taken at trackside with his brownie camera. If that weren't bad enough, the reproduction of the "photographs" and general production values are horrendous.
Even if the production budget for this book was limited, that's still no excuse for the complete lack of graphic design, and the several production "goofs" throughout the book. One example of these high quality standards is the horizontal, distorted "squashing" of several photographs in order to make them fit on the page. Unbelievable.
With the current glut of Nascar-themed books ad nauseum in the stores these days, it's always nice to see a book devoted to road racing. Unfortunately "60 years of photos" didn't recieve the production attention that a subject of this nature so rightly deserves.
